Activities vs. Tours on Zuru: Which Should You Use?

When you create a new experience in Zuru, you choose between two types: an Activity or a Tour. Both appear on the Zuru Marketplace and your Operator Page once you go live, but they are built differently to suit different kinds of operations. Picking the right one from the start makes setup much easier.

What Is an Activity?

An Activity is for experiences that run at set times, usually within a single day. Think of a two-hour whale watching trip that departs at 9am and again at 2pm, a cooking class that runs every Saturday morning, or a guided city walk with multiple daily departures. You set the time slots, the capacity for each slot, and Zuru manages availability in real time as bookings come in.

Activities are the right choice when your experience has a fixed start time, runs for a defined number of hours, and repeats on a schedule.

What Is a Tour?

A Tour is for experiences that span multiple days and involve more complex planning. A four-day safari through the Kruger, a week-long cycling route across the Western Cape, or a fly-in fishing trip with accommodation and transfers are all good examples. Zuru gives you a drag-and-drop builder to put the itinerary together day by day, and you can include accommodation, transport, and other components as part of the trip.

Tours are the right choice when your experience runs over more than one day, involves an itinerary with multiple stops or services, or needs to be presented to customers as a complete packaged journey.

Quick Comparison

If your experience runs in a few hours and repeats on a schedule, use an Activity. If it runs over multiple days and needs a day-by-day itinerary, use a Tour. If you are not sure, think about how a customer would describe your experience. "I went on a two-hour boat trip" is an Activity. "I did a five-day safari" is a Tour.

You can run both types from the same Zuru account, so many operators will have a mix of Activities and Tours in their dashboard.
