How to Set Up Early-Bird Discounts for Your Tours on Zuru

An early-bird discount rewards travelers who book well in advance by offering a lower price for committing early. For you as an operator, it means better visibility into your upcoming capacity, more predictable cash flow, and seats filled before the rush. Once you set the rule in Zuru, it applies automatically to every eligible booking without any manual work on your end.

How It Works

You define how far in advance a booking needs to be made to qualify for the discount, and the percentage off you want to offer. For example, you could set a rule that anyone who books 60 or more days before the departure date saves 15% on the standard price. Zuru checks every incoming booking against that rule and applies the discount automatically at checkout.

On the Zuru Marketplace, customers see the discounted price alongside the standard price so the saving is immediately visible. When spots at the early-bird rate are running low, the marketplace shows a scarcity message like "Only 2 spots left at the Early Bird price" which creates urgency without you having to do anything.

Steps

1. Go to Pricing Rules in your operator dashboard

Log in at operator.tryzuru.com and navigate to the Pricing Rules section.

Create Pricing Rule

2. Create a new rule and select Early Bird

Click to add a new pricing rule and choose Early Bird as the rule type.

3. Set your advance booking window

Enter the number of days in advance a customer needs to book to qualify. For example, 60 days means anyone booking at least 60 days before the departure date gets the discount.

4. Set your discount percentage

Enter the percentage off you want to offer. A typical early-bird discount sits between 10% and 20%, but you can set whatever works for your pricing strategy.

5. Apply the rule to your experiences

Choose which experiences this rule applies to. You can apply it broadly or limit it to specific tours or activities.

6. Save and activate

Save the rule and it goes live immediately. From that point on, Zuru applies the discount automatically to every booking that meets the criteria.

Why It Works

Travelers who plan ahead are often price-sensitive and comparison shopping. An early-bird discount gives them a clear reason to commit to your tour instead of continuing to browse. You fill seats early, improve your cash flow, and have a more accurate picture of demand weeks before the departure date.
